Etisalat is taking on maternal mortality scourge in Nigeria through strategic Partnerships

Etisalat Nigeria, in partnership with a non-governmental organization, Traffina Foundation for Community Health, recently held a Community Support Initiative themed, “Etisalat Maternity Health Platforms (ETIMATHEPs)”. This was a 4-day programme that featured talks on maternal health delivered by a team of medical experts as well as distribution of free Safe Delivery Kits which contained items and consumables that women need during delivery.

The programme is designed to help prevent cases of maternal death and infection during childbirth resulting from ignorance, carelessness, errors from untrained Medicare givers and patronage of traditional midwives.

They were talked to by experts and received free Safe Birth Bags which contained basic childbirth tools that enhance safe and infection-free child delivery.

The Head, Government and Community Relations, Etisalat Nigeria, Mohammed Suleh-Yusuf, said, “Etisalat believes that the provision of quality health to Nigerians must not be borne by the government alone thus we have chosen to support mothers, children and adolescents in our communities with quality medical aid.” The Etisalat Maternity Health Platforms covered 16 communities in six states in the South-South and South-East regions of the countries.

The 16 beneficiary communities include: Issele-Mkpitime, Onicha-Ugbo, Onicha-Uku and Onicha-Olona, all in Aniocha-North LGA of Delta State; Ehor, Irrua and Igieduma communities in Edo State; Nnewi, Nnofor and Ukpor communities in Anambra State; and, Umuokoro, Obogwu and Ndama communities in Imo State. Others are Anantigha, Hawkins and Afokang in Calabar South LGA of Cross Rivers State and Awkunaku and Amaodo in Nkanu West LGA of Enugu State.
